This yoga book is very easy to follow with step-by-step instructions, with matching photographs. I Yoga You Yoga by Pauline Dawber (2013-10-30)
ROL
Deceptively simple!
April 8, 2014
Format: Paperback
How can such a slender book deliver so much? The author has distilled the wisdom of her decades of yoga teaching into step-by-step instructions and added heartfelt warmth.
Each yoga pose is described in simple language: the benefits of it; how to get into position; how long to stay there; how to move out and relax. ‘Slowly, smoothly, steadily’ is repeated to remind the student how to make the most of each movement.
The photo illustrations show real women and men of different ages, with a lack of clutter that makes them easy to follow. The student’s joy in the work shows, along with their concentration.
Each asana has its Sanskrit name alongside the English. They range from the apparently easy (everyone’s favorite!) Corpse pose to more challenging such as the Crescent Moon. The clarity of the text is so beguiling that it’s easy to try out all of them and find you’ve done a whole workout. There are tips on how to build in the habit of yoga in your life, whether you have time for two stretches or more.
The section on chakras gives a taste of further study available. I particularly liked the pages on breathing, which give an introduction to meditation – or simply how to breathe with more awareness – depending on how you use it.
For somebody starting yoga or thinking about it, this book could be a companion to lead you the first steps on a life-changing path, with balance and flexibility to face life’s challenges, and a renewed sense of the wonder of this life.
I attend classes regularly but often need some encouragement to practice in between. Keeping this book handy helps me to fit in a few stretches – and try some less familiar ones – and remember how good it feels!
I Yoga You Yoga is small enough to slip into a handbag or briefcase (lunchtime stretches?) It leaves you satisfied – and wanting to fit in a bit more! If you take it around with you, you’ll find yourself laughing more, breathing more deeply, staying calm (or a bit calmer…), and valuing every moment of your day.

My aim is to encourage you to take up the 10 specific yoga poses I introduce in this book.
Why only 10 poses when there are in fact 84 classic yoga poses?
I prefer to keep things simple so that you are encouraged to practice rather than be overwhelmed by the number of poses.

The knowledge of the yoga poses will stay with you as you move forward in life.

If those thoughts capture your imagination, yoga is a great habit for you to get into.
The more you practice the better you become and you’ll find yoga is progressive in much the same way as playing football cooking or learning to play a musical instrument.
As with any new undertaking, you may find there are some problems to overcome, not least because most of us do not take any form of regular exercise but yoga unfolds many miracles so the question is:
Are you thinking of starting yoga?
If you like the idea of being well and staying well regaining your strength and flexibility, and improving muscle tone in digestion and elimination.
